When I look back at my teenage years, I smile… but I also shake my head.
So many things I worried about never really mattered. So many things I ignored turned out to be life-changing. If only someone had told me earlier.
Now at 23, after making mistakes, facing failures, and growing through tough times, I’ve learned a few things. And I wish I had learned them earlier.
So here it is – a letter to my younger self. Maybe you’ll find something here that helps you too.
1. People change. That’s okay.
Not everyone you start with will stay in your life forever. Some people are lessons, some are blessings. Let go with love. Don’t hold on in anger.
2. Learn to say ‘No’ without guilt.
You don’t have to please everyone. Saying “No” is not rude, it’s self-respect. Protect your time and energy like it’s gold – because it is.
3. Health is not just physical – it’s mental too.
Your mind needs rest too. Don’t ignore anxiety, overthinking, or stress. Talk to someone. Take a break. It’s okay to not be okay.
4. Time is your most valuable currency.
More precious than money. Once gone, you never get it back. Spend it on people who matter, things that help you grow, and moments that make you feel alive.
5. Chase progress, not perfection.
Perfection is an illusion. You’ll always feel like it’s not enough. Focus on being better, not being flawless.
6. Social media is a highlight reel.
Everyone shows their best side online. Don’t compare your behind-the-scenes with someone’s edited trailer.
7. Invest in memories, not things.
That expensive phone will be old in a year. But the memories from a simple picnic with friends? That stays forever.
8. It’s okay to be lost sometimes.
You don’t need to have it all figured out at 18 or 25. Life isn’t a race. Take your time. Explore. Fall. Rise.
9. Start saving money early.
You don’t need to be rich to start. But you need to start to become rich. Even ₹100 a week matters. Trust me – future you will thank you.
10. Tell people you love them – often.
Life is short. Unexpected. Call your parents. Hug your friends. Say “I love you” to people who matter. Don’t wait for a “right moment”.
Life is beautiful, but it doesn’t come with instructions.
We all learn in our own time. But if even one of these lessons helps you avoid a mistake, heal faster, or smile sooner — this post was worth writing.
If you’re reading this, take a deep breath and remember: You’re doing better than you think. ❤️
